About HBnet. The www.Harbor-Beach.net (HBnet) website was created by a former Harbor Beach resident who was looking for a comprehensive Harbor Beach community website to link to from other websites. Unable to locate such a site, the decision was made to create a community website designed to promote Harbor Beach to potential visitors and post current community information of interest to current/past/future Harbor Beach residents. The goal of the site is to post all information pertinent to the community on the World Wide Web for easy access.
What this website is not. The HBnet website is not intended as a commercial site. It's primary purpose is informative. The design services on the site exist only for Harbor Beach businesses and enterprises, and fees for these services are used to offset the cost of maintaining the HBnet website itself. These costs include, but are not limited to, development time, ad-free hosting services, statistical tracking, banner exchanges, internet advertising, search engine submissions/listings, and other costs. The website developer will continue to maintain and develop this site regardless of the level of income generated (if any), until such time as any other community site meets the same criteria. This site is not intended to replace other community sites, business sites, or governmental sites which now exist or may be developed in the future. HBnet is intended to supplement and expand upon other, more focused, community websites - all of which add value to our community and are appreciated. We will gladly link to other sites, free of charge, provided that the content on such sites is pertinent to the Harbor Beach community and is family-friendly.
How popular is HBnet. We regularly track the HBnet statistics in order to improve and expand the site. These statistics identify visitor trends and technical data. Visitor trends help us identify new information that should be added or modifications to current content. Technical data helps us identify design elements of the website which should be improved or modified and provides valuable information for further development of the site. HBnet does not collect personal identifying data and does not share any of the data collected with any other parties. General statistical data may be posted on the site itself to inform you of how the site is doing.
The site was registered in October, 2000 and is under constant development and content refreshes. Updates generally occur on a weekly basis - this is especially important towards keeping the community calendar of events current and timely!
Many of the site's visitors arrive at HBnet after using a search engine - some of the common word-searches that bring them to this website are "Lake Huron", "fishing", "camping", "hotels", "Harbor Beach". Obviously, a large portion of the visitors to HBnet are people looking for a potential vacation destination.
HBnet is currently (as of April 2001) receiving approximately 200 unique visitors every month. Since December 2000, those numbers have been increasing, on average, by 50% each month, due to internet advertising, vigilantly maintained search engine listings, and word-of-mouth.
Upcoming improvements. The HBnet site is under constant development. We have plans to add some new features in the very near future: a bulletin board for posting messages/ads/notices, a guestbook so that you can share your suggestions for the site, a full business listing and more.
